Artist Profile - Emrand Henry
Born August 26, 1979 in Fond St. Jacques, St. Lucia, Zephirinus Henry, better known as Emrand, has become a household name among St. Lucians. At the age of 13, Emrand dedicated his life to Christ and started singing in church and community concerts. An adept songwriter, Emrand concentrated on writing gospel reggae songs in an effort to reach the secular youth.
Fast-forward to September 22, 2003: Emrand Henry becomes the winner of the first ever Cable & Wireless Star Quest talent search. Star Quest is a televised competition designed to showcase up-and-coming artists. Much like the popular American Idol TV show, the viewers determine the winner. The winning prize package included a professional recording of Emrand’s original composition “What is Going On” – the song that won the 6 month long competition.
After winning the Star Quest competition, Emrand went on to record his debut CD, A New Song. More than a singer/songwriter, Emrand Henry is a musical minister spreading the word through the genres of reggae, dancehall, and soca. With the release of A New Song, Emrand Henry joined the ranks of Papa San, Stitchie, Sherwin Gardner, Koen Duncan, Monty G, Isaac Blackman, Prodigal Son, St Matthew and an ever growing list of other “militants for Christ” carrying the message on danceable rhythms.
In July 2006, Emrand Henry garnered four nominations in the Marlin Awards, the Caribbean’s most prestigious Gospel Music Awards. Emrand has appeared in TV commercials, on billboards, and magazine covers. He has released a number of singles, shared the stage with renowned Gospel artists, and traveled the world taking his musical message to the masses. In 2009, Emrand Henry released his much-anticipated second CD No Retreat No Surrender.
Equipped with outstanding vocal prowess that puts him a cut above the competition, well-honed songwriting skills, and a desire to spread the Good News of Jesus Christ, Emrand Henry is poised to take the world by storm.
