Strictly The Best Vol. 28

VP Records' long running compilation series Strictly the Best is one of reggae music's most popular annual releases. Volume 28 features a selection of chart topping lover's rock and roots reggae hits from some of Jamaica's best known recording artists. If you enjoy the smoother side of reggae, then STB 28 is just what you've been looking for.

This 16 track CD opens with Beres Hammond's nostalgic Rock Away. Next up Sweet Life by Cocoa Tea followed by the combination of Swade and Tony Rebel on Just Friends. Other well known artists include Freddie McGregor, Sanchez, Luciano, Morgan Heritage, Glen Washington and dancehall DJ Mr. Vegas - who does an excellent rendition of Rise. Who knew he could sing like that! The multitalented Mr. Vegas shines on Rise.

In addition to original material, STB 28 includes cover versions on hits from the past. There is an excellent remake of the classic UB40 hit Red Red Wine performed by Elan. Yogie does a remake of the Paul Davis pop hit I Go Crazy.

Starting with track 13 the CD shifts to a more conscious/spiritual tone with newcomer VC and his number-1 smash By His Deeds. Next up is Luciano with Oh Father I Love Thee. As always, you get great quality music from Luciano. Morgan Heritage and Glen Washington round things out with
Jah Seed and I Stand Alone respectively.

Strictly the Best 28 is sure to bring hours of listening pleasure.

Strictly the Best Vol. 26

Volume 26 in the highly successful Strictly the Best series delivers some of the year's best reggae music. The 16 track CD opens with Junior Kelly's number-1 blockbuster hit Love So Nice. This sets the stage for a CD that truly lives up to its name, Strictly the Best. The next track is an exceptionally beautiful love ballad by Terry Linen, That's The Way It Is.  This is a superb song and a fitting follow up to his last big hit, Your Love Is My Love.

Other standout tracks include Just Be Good by Half Pint, All My Love by Marcia Griffiths & Da'Ville, Lately by Mr. Biggs and Strangers In The Night by Glen Washington. If you enjoy the softer side of reggae, then this CD belongs in your collection.
