Many websites use SSL technology to encrypt transactions. The URLs of these pages begin with "https:" instead of "http:".
Your browser can also tell you when you are on a secure page.
If you use Microsoft Internet Explorer, an icon of a lock will appear on the status bar of a secure page. Netscape also displays a lock at the bottom of a secure page. Earlier versions of Netscape display an unbroken key at the bottom of the screen.
